Typing modes

Choose a typing mode for the skill you want to practice

Different typing modes give your practice a different focus: copying accurately, remembering a sequence, entering form details or working with symbols. Choose one clear goal, then use a timed typing test to check your overall progress.

Practice exact text and everyday details

Form Mode focuses on realistic fields such as names, cities and addresses. Pay attention to capitalization, spacing and punctuation. Use fictional information in practice fields.

Chart Mode asks you to read visual values and type the requested labels or summaries. Use it when you want to practice careful reading alongside number and text entry.

Add a memory or visual challenge

Dark Type asks you to remember text before typing it without the usual visible prompt. Sequence Mode uses ordered letters, numbers and symbols. Begin with a manageable amount of text and focus on preserving the order.

Mirror Mode presents reflected words that you decode and type normally. These exercises add a challenge beyond copying; their difficulty means scores should not be compared directly with an ordinary WPM test.

Work on symbols and communication

Creative Mode builds keyboard faces, frames and symbol designs. Symbol Mode asks you to reproduce symbol patterns exactly. Both give punctuation and spacing more attention than ordinary word practice.

Chat Mode practices replies in message threads, while Voice Mode asks you to type spoken sentences. Chat and Voice require Pro access when available.

Choose one goal for each session

Use an ordinary typing test for a baseline, choose a mode that matches a recurring difficulty, and finish by reviewing what became easier. Switch to a typing game when you want a different pace.

A mode score reflects that exercise’s rules. For a useful speed comparison, return to the same timed test settings and read accuracy alongside WPM.

  1. Identify a difficulty: symbols, memory, mixed text or steady accuracy.
  2. Choose one exercise and work at a controlled pace.
  3. Review mistakes before increasing difficulty.
  4. Return to your usual typing test to compare similar results.
